Visualizing Global Women’s Health

Follow me as I travel around the world exploring women's health and safety and the roles of resilience and community building

About This Project

What Is My Project?

Over the next year I am going to travel to countries around the world exploring women's health and resilience. I will explore how their lives, bodies, and choices have been affected by challenges to their rights and also how they find empowerment and resilience within their worlds. The most effective way I can do this is through photography, through showing the world the faces of these powerful women.

I want to spend time with women who have experienced atrocities and with women who have experienced happiness and fulfillment. I am especially interested in how both can be true of the same woman, how women faced with oppressive external forces find resilience, communities, and power within.

Where Am I Going?

Over the next year I am going to travel to 5 countries, spanning 5 continents. Each country poses specific threats to women’s health, safety, and autonomy.

Included in my list of countries is: Burkina Faso, Thailand, Peru, Ireland, and the United States.

Who Am I?

Throughout high school I was a member of the United States Telemark Ski Team. During that time I started speaking with groups of young girls in my communities about how important positive body image is in navigating the world as a female.  After I graduated high school and started college at Williams College I realized that the issues women face only get worse with age. I became involved in groups in school and out that address rape and sexual assault. In the summer of 2015 I had the honor of working under Vice President Joe Biden as the sole intern for the White House Advisor on Violence Against Women.

I have a BA in art history with honors, I spent my college career exploring the intersections of art, women's issues, and health. This project is the manifestation of all of my passions. I want to learn as much as I can about women's resilience and community building globally, communicate what I learn through art, stories, and interviews, and use it to inform public policy in the United States.
